Xiaomi MMS Not Sending on O2? Quick Fix
Xiaomi MMS Not Sending or Downloading on O2? UK Fix
This guide helps if your Xiaomi on O2 can't send or receive picture messages (MMS), MMS gets stuck on "sending" or "downloading", or picture messages never arrive.
If MMS isn't working on your Xiaomi with O2, first check that Mobile Data is ON. On most phones, MMS requires mobile data. Then open your messaging app settings and make sure MMS auto-download is enabled. If still not working, check APN settings – your APN type should include
mms. Also try clearing the Messages app cache.
Applies to Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi Phones
This guide applies to Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices running MIUI or HyperOS, including Redmi Note series, POCO X/F series, and Xiaomi 14/15.

🔍 Step 1 – Diagnostic Gate (30 Seconds)
Before trying any fixes, answer these questions:
- Does Mobile Data work for internet browsing? MMS requires mobile data. If internet doesn't work, fix that first – MMS won't work either.
- Is MMS stuck on "sending" or "downloading"? Could be APN, app cache, or mobile data issue.
- Did this start after a HyperOS update? Settings or APN may have reset – see Fix D below.
📊 Fixes by Probability (What Actually Works)
🔥 Critical Fixes (Most Common – Try First)
- Fix A – Make sure Mobile Data is ON – MMS typically requires mobile data
- Fix B – Check Messaging App Settings (Google Messages or Xiaomi Messaging)
- Fix C – Clear Messages App Cache
📌 Optional Fixes (If Above Didn't Work)
- Fix D – Check MMS After HyperOS Update – APN or settings may have reset
- Fix E – Check or fix APN Settings (APN type should include
mms) - Toggle Airplane mode – ON for 30 seconds, then OFF
- Restart your phone – Clears temporary issues
- Check image size – Try sending a smaller image or screenshot
⚡ Rare Fixes (Last Resort)
- Reset network settings – Settings → Connection & sharing → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and Bluetooth
- Contact O2 – Call 202 to check if MMS is enabled on your account (may vary on older legacy plans)
Fix A – Make Sure Mobile Data Is ON
On most Xiaomi phones and O2 connections, MMS requires an active mobile data connection.
Check: Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks → O2 SIM → Mobile data → ON
Test: Turn WiFi OFF, open Chrome to confirm internet works. Then try sending or downloading MMS again.
Fix B – Check Messaging App Settings (Google Messages or Xiaomi Messaging)
If you're using Google Messages (most common on Xiaomi), MMS auto-download may be disabled.
Google Messages: Open app → Three dots (⋮) → Settings → Advanced → MMS auto-download → Turn ON (for both mobile data and roaming)
Xiaomi Messaging: Open app → Three dots (⋮) → Settings → MMS settings → Auto-download → ON
Fix C – Clear Messages App Cache
A stuck or corrupted Messages app can prevent MMS from sending or downloading. Clearing cache fixes this without deleting your messages.
Step 1 – Clear cache for Google Messages: Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Search for "Messages" → Storage → Clear cache (not clear data – that deletes messages)
Step 2 – Clear cache for Xiaomi Messaging: Same steps if you use Xiaomi's default app
Step 3 – Restart your phone and test MMS
Fix D – MMS Not Sending After HyperOS Update?
HyperOS updates can sometimes reset APN settings or messaging app preferences. If MMS worked before an update and stopped after:
- Check your APN type still includes
mms(Fix E below) - Check MMS auto-download in messaging app settings (Fix B) – updates may reset this
- Toggle Airplane mode on/off to refresh the data connection
- If still not working, reset network settings (Fix 9)
Fix E – Check or Fix APN Settings (APN Type Should Include "mms")
O2 typically needs APN type including mms for MMS to work. Before making changes, note that O2's APN settings can change over time.
Step 1 – Go to APN settings: Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks → O2 SIM → Access Point Names
Step 2 – Check your existing internet APN: Look at the APN type field. If it already includes mms (e.g., default, supl, mms), you don't need to change anything – MMS should work.
Step 3 – If APN type is missing mms: Tap your existing APN → APN type → add ,mms to the end (e.g., change default, supl to default, supl, mms) → Save → Restart.
,mms to its APN type.
Fix F – Try Turning WiFi OFF Temporarily
If MMS still won't send or download, temporarily disable WiFi and try again. This helps rule out connection handoff issues between WiFi and mobile data.
Turn off WiFi (swipe down notification shade → tap WiFi icon) → wait 10 seconds → try MMS again.
Test MMS on Another Phone
- Put your O2 SIM in another phone and try sending/downloading MMS:
- If MMS works on the other phone: Problem is your Xiaomi's settings. Check Fix B, C, and E.
- If MMS fails on the other phone too: Problem is your O2 account or SIM. Call 202 – MMS may be disabled on your plan (can vary on older legacy plans and business accounts).
Quick Questions
Why won't picture messages download on Xiaomi O2?
Most commonly MMS auto-download is off in your messaging app settings, or mobile data is off. Check Fix A and Fix B first.
Why does MMS say downloading but never finishes?
Usually means mobile data is unstable or APN type is missing mms. Toggle Airplane mode to refresh data, then check your APN settings (Fix E).
Do I need mobile data for MMS on O2?
On most Xiaomi phones and O2 connections, MMS requires an active mobile data connection. It typically won't work over WiFi alone.
Can HyperOS updates break MMS settings?
Yes. HyperOS updates can reset APN settings or messaging app preferences. If MMS worked before an update, check Fix D and Fix E.
Will clearing Messages cache delete my texts?
No. Clearing cache only removes temporary files. Your messages will not be deleted. Do NOT tap "Clear data" – that deletes messages.
Will resetting network settings delete my photos?
No. Only saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth devices are removed.
